Alcohol Tax increase needed       (06/17/2009)

Drug Free Marion County's Board is advocating for an increase in Indiana's alcohol beverage tax.  This tax has not been increased since 1981.  Studies conducted by the National Institute of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA) have shown a decrease in use by both underage drinkers and high risk drinkers.

Additionally, Drug Free Marion County is calling for the revenue from the tax be used to address the problems caused by alcohol abuse; emerency room  and trauma center visits, forensic diversion programs to rehabilitate repeat offenders, treatment and intervention programs, and to improve prevention services.
